Sacramento donors support new neonatal intensive care unit

Bob and Star Pepper support NyICU through Mercy Foundation.(August 2017) - Bob and Star Pepper have demonstrated their deep commitment to the Sacramento region they call home through their charitable investments in Mercy Foundation. They first connected with Mercy through a friend living with multiple sclerosis, who made them aware of Northern California’s only MS Achievement Center. Their gift match in support of the center helped cement a second three-year grant agreement with the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation (which provided the seed funding to start the Achievement Center). They have since made a further investment to support additional staffing at the center.  However, their recent commitment of $500,000 to Mercy in support of the campaign to build a new neonatal intensive care unit at Mercy San Juan Medical Center showed special leadership and generosity.

As Star Pepper recently noted, underscoring the reason behind their commitments to Mercy, “The Robert S. and Star Pepper Foundation has long been focused on the arts, education, medical research and treatment, and helping those that need a little extra care and attention; i.e., the unknown, the unseen, the discarded.

“We were impressed with the heartfelt care of the staff in the San Juan NICU, saving babies -- some of whom weighed just over a pound.”
