St. Joseph’s awarded second grant in support of OB/GYN residency program

MICA Medical Foundation and St. Joseph's.(AUGUST 2017) - MICA Medical Foundation (MMF) recently pledged a gift of more than $280,000 to establish and fund a four-year obstetrics and gynecology residency scholarship at Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center. The donation is the second gift from MMF designated for OB/GYN scholarship in consecutive years. The first—in the amount of $270,000—marked the organization’s largest donation to support a nonprofit residency program in Arizona.

Thirty-four residents are currently enrolled in the St. Joseph’s OB/GYN program, which is jointly sponsored by Maricopa County Hospital.

Residents gain valuable experience caring for patients in need of general and subspecialty services, including preventive, critical and ambulatory care, labor and delivery, surgical procedures and treatment of diseases.

The 2017 MMF scholarship was awarded to Taylor Jenkins, MD. She and the 2016 scholarship recipient, Meisje Burton, MD, graduated from the University of Arizona College of Medicine before matching into the OB/GYN residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
