A message from our leadership

Dear Colleagues,

We have officially entered the holiday giving season! #GivingTuesday was earlier this week. For those who celebrated by giving or asking for support, I hope it was a big success. With nearly a third of all giving happening in December, we know this is just the beginning of a busy season for philanthropy, filled with soliciting year-end gifts, thanking donors, celebrating the year’s highlights, and setting goals for what’s ahead.

I hope in the midst of your holiday celebrations and year-end commitments that you will find time to express gratitude to our donors and supporters, families, and colleagues who make the work of our mission possible.

As I reflect on the individuals and organizations who committed their support to Dignity Health this year, I am truly humbled. Together, Dignity Health’s 29 affiliated fundraising foundations raised a record $150. 1 million to further the work of our ministry.

This was accomplished through gifts large and small, including some transformational contributions, like the incredible pledge of nearly $25 million from The Ben and Catherine Ivy Foundation to Barrow Neurological Foundation aimed at curing glioblastomas. Or the $10 million endowment from the Engelstad Family Foundation to St. Rose Dominican Health Foundation to raise the level of prevention and care for breast cancer patients in Nevada. Looking through our annual report, released last month, I see story after story that reminds me of the healing power that works through all of us.

As I look back on 2018, I must also sadly pause to again remember the terrible tragedies that took place throughout our ministry – more wildfires ravaged California, more violence shook our communities. Once again, however, our supporters answered the call to help those affected, donating generously of their time, talent, and resources every time they were asked.

As the last days to make a tax-deductible contribution tick by, I hope you will also consider making a donation yourself in support of our ministry. You can give via cash or through payroll deduction, including PTO donation, to any of our foundations or system priority initiatives. Your gift makes a difference in the lives of those we serve and your support is a vote of confidence in the work we are doing.

Sincerely,

Fred Najjar
