Successful treatment for brain and spine disorders, injuries, and diseases is often just the first step in a positive outcome for patients. Just as important in many cases is a comprehensive rehabilitation program that returns the patient to a normal life. Thunderbird Charities granted $350,000 to Barrow Neurological Foundation in support of neuro-rehabilitation.

Barrow Neurological Institute at Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center offers the world’s most innovative and comprehensive neuro-rehabilitation programs. Patients in inpatient, outpatient, and the Center for Transitional Neuro-Rehabilitation settings work with occupational, physical, and speech therapists, as well as social workers, using state-of-the-art equipment and technology to return to productive, fulfilling lives. For example, Barrow offers therapy using water-based techniques, neuro-robotics, and virtual reality.

Neuro-rehabilitation is where many patients who have suffered from brain injury, stroke, and other neurological conditions learn life-changing skills such as how to walk and talk again.
