Exceeding Giving Challenge

Barrow Neurological Foundation

Woman in a driving simulatorBarrow Neurological Foundation secured a total of $378,000 for an expansion of its Center for Transitional Neuro-Rehabilitation (CTN) as a result of a challenge grant issued by The Pelican Charitable Foundation.

Under the terms of the challenge grant, The Pelican Charitable Foundation pledged to contribute $2 for every $1 given to Barrow Neurological Foundation by December 31, 2014. When donors exceeded that amount and raised $126,000, The Pelican Charitable Foundation increased their original pledge from $200,000 to $252,000.

The directors of The Pelican Charitable Foundation have personally seen patients benefit from CTN’s life-enhancing services and wanted to expand them to more patients. The CTN expansion project is now underway and will ultimately double the size of the facility.

The CTN provides intensive, long-term outpatient rehabilitation to people recovering from brain injuries. The goal of CTN is to improve independent functioning at home and in the community, and to help patients return to work or school. Since the center opened in 1986, it has helped more than 800 patients regain the skills needed to return to more productive, fulfilling lives.
