Wings of Freedom Foundation Donates $300,000 to Angels Camp Family Medical Center

The planned facility at the Mark Twain Medical Center

Betty Higgins has stepped forward as a major benefactor in the capital campaign for the new of Angels Camp Family Medical Center. The Angels Camp resident has donated $300,000 to the building fund.

The gift from Higgins and her late husband, Samuel, comes as Mark Twain Medical Center Foundation is in final stages of a $2.3 million capital campaign to build a new state-of-the-art facility to serve Angels Camp and the Highway 4 corridor.

Groundbreaking ceremonies will be held in the fall for the 19,000 sq. ft., facility at the intersection of Main Street and Stanislaus Road.

The foundation recently held its “Angels Gathering” to bring major donors together to complete the capital campaign that has been three years in the making. The gift from Higgins helped the Foundation reach its building fund goal.

Foundation President Greg Jordan said, "The Higgins Family helped make our dream come true. Their wonderful gift means we will be able to break ground and begin construction before the end of this year. " Primary care services in the existing clinic will be expanded to include internal medicine, extended hour care, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology. Additional space will double current facilities for specialty services and include diagnostic imaging and laboratory services. A Women’s Health Center will be featured, along with a Community Education Center.

Jordan notes, “Every member of the community will have an opportunity to put their own personal mark on the project or pay tribute to loved ones through the purchase of pathway bricks, park benches and other items enhancing the center's grounds.”
