Ivy Foundation Gift Helps Researchers Identify Ways to Slow Brain Tumor Growth

Dr. Nader Sanai

A tremendous gift of $300,000 from The Ben and Catherine Ivy Foundation to Barrow Neurological Foundation will support a study conducted at Barrow Brain Tumor Research Center at Barrow Neurological Institute to identify safe and more effective treatments for slowing the growth of brain tumors.

Under the direction of Nader Sanai, MD, the study is testing a new drug designed to inhibit the activity of an enzyme that allows both normal and cancer cells to divide and multiply. Brain tumors are listed as one of the top-10 causes of cancer-related deaths in the United States. Overall survival in patients with high-grade brain tumors will determine if this new drug may be used to treat more patients suffering with malignant brain tumors in the future.
